2024 Leon High School Band – Oliver Hobbs Memorial Spring Concert
Monday, May 6, 2024 - Leon Performing Arts Theater at Leon High School, Tallahassee, FL
This year, we welcome Dr. Chandler Wilson from the Florida State University, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education. This is is last conducting performance in Tallahassee as a member of faculty at FSU. In the Fall of 2024, Dr. Wilson takes on his new role as the Director of Bands at Stetson University in DeLand, FL.

This is my school!
It always amazes me that high school students today, in 2024, can take a very esoteric "golden oldie" transcript from way back (Il Guarany) and bring it back to life. This was a tremendous performance of that work, and the march and the Grainger were equally well done. Good luck at State MPA! ☺

The mics used to record are not from the school. They are from FSU's College of Music that they have graciously let me borrow as I work towards better audio engineering. They are excellent microphones used in professional recordings at FSU. I'm still on the learning curve with the new setup.

@@charlettarice2645 I've been to hbcu band performances since I was 4 years old. First time seeing famu, I was 6 in Columbia sc. In fact, I marched in an hbcu band and battled famu for years. I'm a fan of the band. I just didn't think the dances were appropriate for a high school battle of the band. That's all
None of dancing was indecent though…so!
@charlettarice2645 you got drum majors humping the ground. It might not seem major to us because we use to it but people who ain't use to it and got small kids out there watching might be shocked. I just don't think some of it was necessary for this performance. Save it for home games. Plus they trying to recruit people to come to their summer band camp. Don't give the parents who will pay a bad perception.
